What are the costs when purchasing a property in France?
There are slightly different costs for purchasing a property in France, depending on the type of property you are purchasing:
- New Property
For properties less than 5 years old, taxes amount to approximately 2.5% of the property price, while you’ll also have to pay land registration and notary fees.
- Resale property
Properties older than 5 years old are classed as resales. You would expect to pay between 6% and 8% of the total purchase cost.
When you register the mortgage, you will also have to pay an additional 1% for the notary.
