Andermatt Resort Guide

Situated on a sunny plateau high up in the Swiss Alps, Andermatt has had a transformation in the last decade. This once sleepy village has been transformed via a $1bn investment into one of the most modern and sought-after destinations in the Swiss Alps. Fortunately, the old town retains its traditional Swiss charm and with its cobbled streets is a charming and picturesque as any Swiss ski resort Just 1.5 hours from Zurich, two hours from Milan and close to the likes of Zermatt and St Moritz, Andermatt’s prime location is now attracting investors looking to buy a chalet or apartment in a snow-sure location in the Swiss Alps. Furthermore, Andermatt has a rare exemption from the usual Swiss laws governing the ownership of a holiday home. Property ownership in Andermatt is open to investors from across the world and there are no rental obligations attached to the properties. With dramatic scenery, high altitude skiing, plentiful summer activities and a good selection of apartments and chalets for sale it is not hard to see how Andermatt has become one of the top choices for Swiss property investors in the last few years. Property in Andermatt

The scale of the new development in Andermatt means that there is a good selection of property for sale and investors will find something to suit all budges.

 

Demand has been particularly strong since the Covid-19 pandemic and most new apartments and chalets are sold off-plan allowing investors to fully customize their new ski property.

 

Property in Andermatt is open to investors from around the world and there is no need to be an EU or European citizen. Apartments and chalets here are also exempt from the recent Lex Webber laws which means they come without a rental obligation.

 

If you are looking to buy a chalet or apartment to keep exclusively for you and your family then Andermatt is well worth a look.

 

Once completed, the Andermatt resort will have a total of 500 apartments, 25 chalets and six 4 & 5* hotels.

 

Property sales have been strong in recent years with total sales in Andermatt of CHF 150m in 2022 up from CHF 122m the previous year.

 

Since the opening of the famous Chedi hotel in 2013 prices have been rising steadily although Andermatt remains good value compared to its more famous neighbors such as Zermatt and St Moritz.

Winter in Andermatt

The ski area of Andermatt has also changed in recent years and now offers some great, high altitude skiing that can give the 4 Valleys a run for its money.

The recent new ski lifts to Sedrun has added a further 50kms of piste and also made the ski area more family friendly.

With the resort at 1,400m and skiing right up to almost 3,000m, Andermatt can now boast some of the most snow-sure skiing in the Alps.

With the recent $1bn investment from Egyptian develpopers Orascom Andermatt is now served by a fast and modern ski system.

The Gemsstock area offers some challenging red and black runs and is a paradise for off-piste skiers and powder hounds with plenty of 900m descents available.

On the other side of the ski region, the Gütsch-Oberalp-Sedrun area offers the bulk of the piste skiing with plenty of sunny and scenic slopes that will appeal to families with children.

Summer in Andermatt

If you enjoy you enjoy wondering around lush forests, winding mountain trails, crystal clear waters then Andermatt in the summer will not disappoint.

 

Situated on a natural plateau you are surrounded on all sides by jaw-dropping mountain scenery.

 

Andermatt has invested heavily in its summer infrastructure over the last few years and now offers world-class biking and hiking, as well as more thrilling adventures such as rock climbing and canyoning.

 

For a more leisurely day in the village you can enjoy the 18 hole Andermatt Swiss Alps Golf Course or a relaxing day at the spa.

 

Golf fans are well catered for. The Andermatt course was voted the best in Switzerland in 2017 but it is also supplemented by three further 9-hole course at Sedrun, Realp and Obergestlen.

 

Andermatt has a significant resident population which ensure that hotels, bars and restaurants are open throughout the year.
