Property in La Toussuire

Property for sale in La Toussuire has historically been quite limited which perhaps is the reason why it has not attracted attention from alpine second home buyers. However, for those prepared to look hard this undiscovered corner of the French Alps could reap high rewards.

La Toussuire Centre is a lively area with plenty of shops, cafes, and restaurants all within easy walking distance. The central zone is also home to the main ski lift, called 'La Toussuire Express,' which provides quick access to the extensive Les Sybelles ski domain. This prime location means that residents can effortlessly go from their doorstep to the slopes without needing their car or ski bus.
Les Ecourts is located slightly beyond the centre of La Toussuire and is known for its family-friendly atmosphere. Most of the chalets and apartments in this area face south, providing residents with excellent views of the Aiguilles d'Arves. Les Ecourts is the ideal place for anyone who seeks a peaceful living environment while being close to the wonders of nature.

Le Corbier is a notable area within La Toussuire's for anyone looking to invest in a ski property. It is renowned for its modern architecture and is home to a variety of chalets and apartments. This area offers exceptional views facing south and provides direct access to the Les Sybelles ski area.

Several older hotels are now being re-developed which will give property investors the chance to own a new ski-in ski-out apartment in what is France’s fourth largest ski region.
The region already covers some 300kms of piste but if plans to connect the resort to neighbouring Alp d’Huez and Les Deux Alps come to fruition then property in La Toussuire could make a smart investment.

La Toussuire property prices are still relatively affordable and currently range between EUR 6,000 – 9,000 / m2.

Winter in La Toussuire

La Toussuire is one of six ski resorts that make up the Les Sybelles ski region, offering over 300 kilometres of skiing trails. This ski region was created only in 2003, making it one of the newest and perhaps lesser-known skiing destinations in the French Alps. Additionally, if you take a short ski bus to neighbour Albiez, you can enjoy an additional 40 kilometres of skiing trails.

The Les Sybelles ski region in France's Maurienne Valley is the 4th largest in the country. It comprises several villages, including Le Corbier, Saint-Sorlin-d'Arves, Saint-Jean-d'Arves, Les Bottières, and Saint-Colomban des Villards. These villages are all connected and covered under the same lift pass. The resort is a popular choice among French families, who appreciate the less crowded slopes, affordable mountain restaurants, and shorter lift queues.

La Toussuire is particularly appealing to families and novices in the world of skiing, thanks to its array of ski schools and zones dedicated to beginners. The resort prides itself on its family-friendly atmosphere, ensuring a welcoming and safe environment for skiers of all ages.

La Toussuire is also at a relatively snow-sure 1,750m meaning that the wide-open pistes that run down to the resort stay open for most of the ski season. The popular ‘Grand Truc’ piste offers one of the longest descents in this part of the French Alps with some incredible views as you descend back into La Toussuire.
La Toussuire offers more than just classic winter sports. Visitors can choose from a variety of activities such as ice skating, paragliding, and snowmobiling. Additionally, the resort's wellness centres provide a peaceful escape for rejuvenation after a day on the slopes.

When it comes to dining, La Toussuire provides a delightful experience with a selection of restaurants that serve both traditional Savoyard cuisine and international dishes. Some of the popular restaurants include La Poterie, known for its fondue and raclette, and Le Genepi, famous for its cosy atmosphere and local specialities. The resort also has bars like Le Chalet and L’Eclipse, which offer lively après-ski entertainment with music and themed nights, ensuring that the fun continues off the slopes.

Summer in La Toussuire

Much like its neighbouring Alpe d’Huez, La Toussuire has invested heavily in its summer tourism over the last 20 years and is now reaping the rewards. The resort is now a popular destination in the summer with the Tour de France and other big sporting events being regularly hosted there.

The hiking options are some of the most scenic in the French Alps with unobstructed vistas stretching far across the Maurienne Valley.
Day excursions can take you to places like the iconic Col de la Madeleine, known for its dramatic Tour de France ascents, or to the picturesque towns of Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne and Albiez, each with its distinct charm and heritage. The local cuisine, characterized by hearty Savoyard dishes and fine regional wines, promises a delightful culinary journey in the alpine setting.
Popular with families with young children is the short 90-minute loop of the village with the opportunity to cool off in one of the beautiful outdoor swimming lakes at the end!

La Toussuire has a busy schedule of activities throughout the summer designed to keep the kids (and therefore the adults!) entertained. Craft workshops, dance and fitness classes, tennis, golf, swimming and much more await in this high-altitude alpine oasis.
