La Rosière Resort Guide

La Rosière is high-altitude French ski resort with an extensive ski region that allows for skiing in both France and Italy! Only in La Rosière can you enjoy your traditional French croissant for breakfast and then be dining on Italian pasta near La Thuile for lunch. At 1,850 the resort is snow-sure with impressive south-facing views across the Tarentaise valley. Consisting mainly of traditional chalet-style buildings the resort retains a typically French alpine charm and is a firm favorite for families seeking the convenience of a ski-in ski-out property. The skiing on the French side of the mountain, tends to be mainly south-facing with plenty of family-friendly runs back down to the village. On the Italian, north-facing slopes of the Aosta valley, you will find steeper terrain and plenty of good off-piste skiing.

Property in La Rosière

There are two distinct parts to La Rosière – the original village and the newer Les Eucherts. Both are connected by a frequent bus service and only about one mile apart.

If you are able to find a chalet for sale then it is likely to be located in the newer Les Eucherts region which has been sympathetically designed and centers around a new Croisette or ski front with the usually assortment of shops, bars and restaurants.

Expect to pay from EUR 1.5m for a detached chalet within walking distance of the piste.

In the original village, centered around the Roches Noires ski lifts some of the older chalet-style buildings are being converted and now offer investors the chance to buy newly refurbished apartments and penthouses – many with incredible south facing views across the Tarentaise Valley.

Apartment prices can vary a lot depending on the age of the building but smaller apartments can be found for sale from EUR 500,000 with luxury penthouses fetching EUR 1m+.

Property in La Rosière has been attracting plenty of interest recently as prices are still relatively competitive comparted to its more famous neighbors - Val d’Isere and Tignes.

Winter in La Rosière

At 1850m the resort of La Rosière tends to be fairly snow sure with plenty of good skiing up to 2,800m.

The main attraction here is the link to La Thuile which opens up the vast Espace San Bernardo ski region on the Italian side of the border.

Both sides of the ski area have distinct feels with the French side being more family friendly with plenty of south-facing slopes while the Italian side offers some more adventurous, steeper pistes and some excellent off-piste skiing.

In 2018 the opening of two new ski lifts at Mont Valaisan opened up the skiing right up to 2,800m – all with some incredible Mont Blanc views.

Summer in La Rosière

Property in La Rosière is generally perceived as a good rental investment since the resort has a good summer season with plenty of hiking, cycling trails and a golf course.

What’s more, once the high-alpine roads are cleared of snow, you can easily pop over to Italy for the day by car or down the valley back to Chamonix and through the Mont Blanc tunnel.

The popular La Rosière Activity Pass gives unlimited summer access to the lift system on both the French and

Italian side as well as discounted access to plenty more summer activities back in the village centre.

The Lac du Repos is a popular summer swimming spot where families cool off after a hard day in the mountains!
