Lech-Zurs Resort Guide

Just on the border of Austria’s Tyrol and Vorarlberg Province are the glamorous twinned villages of Lech and Zürs. Part of the mighty Arlberg ski region Lech and Zürs are renown the world over for high quality skiing, boutique hotels and dining and an upmarket clientele. Property is hard to come by in both villages and strict local planning laws have kept on lid on the number of private chalets and apartments for sale. If you do manage to find a property for sale in either Lech or Zürs then you will find yourself in an ideal ski-in ski-out location in the very centre of the Arlberg ski region. The resorts are known for offering perfect winter sports conditions with quick and easy access to high altitude skiing, excellent back country runs and plenty of gourmet dining options on the slopes. In Zürs, “Project Zürs” has now been given the green light, part of which is creating a tunnel through the village making it entirely car free.

Property in Lech-Zurs

Ski chalets and apartments for sale in Lech or Zürs have historically been very hard to find and these prized assets have become one of the most exclusive addresses in the Austrian Alps.

In recent years a number of older hotels have been sold which are not being converted into new apartment residences. As is common in Austria these apartments are likely to come with a rental obligation and full rental management services.

The variety of ski lifts in Lech and Zürs mean that you are never too far from a ski lift and plenty of properties offer ski-in ski-out access.

Seemingly infinite demand and limited supply has meant that property prices in this desirable corner of Austria tend to be high with prices often reaching EUR 20,000 / m2 or more.

Winter in Lech-Zurs

Lech and Zürs are both picturesque ski villages with an excellent snow record.

The resorts are situated in the middle of Austria’s famous Arlberg ski region which covers a total of 303kms of piste.

As well as Lech and Zürs the popular resorts of St Anton, Warth and Stuben are all connected onto the same lift pass.

The Arlberg is one of the most snow sure ski regions in Austria with plenty of pistes above 2,000m and the highest point reaching 2,811m.

As a result of this, you are guaranteed one of the longest ski seasons in Austria with the lifts often running from mid-December through till late April.

Summer in Lech-Zurs

Lech and Zürs are only a five minutes’ drive from each other and during the summer months offer an ideal base from which to explore the beautiful scenery of the Arlberg region.

Many of the main ski lifts operate from May through till October taking hikers and mountain bikers up into the mountains from where you can access some spectacular alpine trails.

Back in the valley you will find plenty of family-friendly activities on offer including a swimming pool nestled into the forest, tennis, horse riding, golf, sports center and much more.

The ‘Arl-Rock’ sports center is popular with families as is the hair-raising ‘Supersauser’ toboggan run that will take from 1,400m right down to the valley.

When you are ready to un-wind after a hard day in the mountains the Arlberg wellness center in St Anton offers three further swimming pools, saunas, steam rooms and much more.
