Lauchernalp's skiing rises from Wiler at 1,419m to the Hockenhorngrat at 3,111m. A cable car, two chairlifts, a gondola and a T-bar open up the mountain, while children's slopes serve the nursery area. The result is a compact domain with considerably more variety and vertical scale than its piste total first suggests.

Beginners have gentle terrain around the lower mountain and at the upper lifts, although the link between the high and low sectors is graded red or black. Intermediates will find broad, uncrowded skiing, while the steeper middle and upper slopes give experienced skiers a more serious test. The area's inclusion in the Magic Pass also broadens its appeal for owners who ski regularly across western Switzerland.

The Lötschental has an established following among freeriders and ski tourers. Powder terrain opens away from the pistes and tours lead towards Petersgrat and Gitzifurggu.

Lauchernalp also works well for mixed-ability groups. The groomed panorama trail on the Hockenhorngrat gives walkers an easy outing at around 3,100m, with a viewpoint across more than forty 4,000m peaks. Lower down, there are winter walking and snowshoe routes, local ski schools and a 6km sledging descent from Lauchernalp to Wiler. The valley maintains a smaller network of prepared cross-country trails for both classic and skating technique.

Evenings are quiet and mountain-focused. Rather than a large après-ski circuit, owners have a handful of welcoming restaurants and terraces serving Valais specialities.

Summer in Lauchernalp

Lauchernalp is more than a winter address, for owners, summer and autumn extend the useful season with hiking, biking, climbing and restaurant terraces.

The cable car returns the resort to a panoramic walking base, with paths crossing alpine pasture and mountain forest beneath the Bietschhorn. Clear days bring long views into the glaciated high Alps, while the altitude keeps conditions fresher than on the Rhône valley floor.

The classic outing is the Lötschental Panoramic Trail from Lauchernalp to Fafleralp. The 9km route stays largely between 1,800m and 2,100m, passing the summer hamlets of Weritzalp and Tellialp before the mountain lakes at Schwarzsee and Faflersee. With modest climbing and around 2 hours 40 minutes of walking, it delivers a genuine high-mountain journey without requiring a technical itinerary.

Families can follow the Loichi Ball Trail through the Baanwald to Wiler, explore the short alpine-experience loop or try the small climbing garden near Berghaus Lauchernalp. Mountain bikers have the easy, chairlift-served Loichi flow trail.

The wider Lötschental adds cultural depth. Kippel's museum explains the valley's history and traditions, and the dark wooden houses and sun-browned barns give the villages a distinctive character.
